Travel to West Africa from the comfort of your home

For someone who didn’t like cooking while growing up, the creator of The Blvck Gourmet is promoting West African food and cuisine in quite a beautiful way. Born and raised in West Africa, Malicka spent the first 20 years of her life in Benin before moving to the USA. She now lives in Chicago.

She is a Digital Forensic consultant by profession but her passion for West African food and culture also made her a food blogger and content creator.

In 2013, she created an IG page FoodandTravelposts, which is now known as The Blvck Gourmet. On that IG page and the blog, she shares her own experiences with African food and culture where you can find recipes, tips and tricks to create yummy dishes, as well as stories behind ingredients and meals.

The main reasons why she has these platforms are:

  • To help anyone who is going through the same struggle she went through when she first came to the US.

  • To introduce more people to, not only Beninese food, but West African food in general.

Malicka is very passionate about what she does, and it is seen on the quality of her content. According to her:

“African food being under-represented in the culinary industry across the globe is something I’d love to change one day. You hear people talk about almost all other cultures’ food but almost never about African food, sounds about right?”
